Corgi Therapy, Designer Edition

In moments of overwhelm, we don’t need a grand comeback. We just need one tiny thing that reminds us we’re still moving forward.

For me, that one tiny thing was opening up the Running Corgi Pendant CAD model. No perfection. No pressure. Just progress.

And then came the soundtrack.

There was a long stretch of silent time-lapse footage in this video — just me and polygons. My wife had been suggesting for a while that I should have our kids sing “Oh Potato Dog” (an original by Parry Gripp) during these corgi-themed segments. It sounded perfect… but coordinating that with busy kids felt nearly impossible.

Still, we carved out a little time — and my youngest jumped in with total enthusiasm. We recorded the song together, and it was one of those surprising, sincerely joyful parenting moments where you think:

“Oh right. This is what really matters.”

The timing of the footage and the song happened to match up almost perfectly. I only had to trim it in one place — right before he launched into a gloriously silly fart-noise version of the chorus. I barely held in a laugh while recording — one breath too loud and that take would have been toast.

The Running Corgi Pendant Takes Shape

From the very beginning, this design had motion. The original sketch captured that joyful, full-speed corgi sprint — with those tiny legs stretched, ears upright, heart leading the way. That vision translated well into CAD… at least at first glance.

The challenge wasn’t the pose. It was the elegance.

This little corgi has a knife-edge profile — a sculptural ridge that runs through the piece to give it dimension, sparkle, and a very intentional sense of flow. A profile like that is easy to draw, but in 3D modeling software?

Let’s just say my computer had questions.

The geometry is complex — lots of curves, no straight lines, everything in motion. The software kept creating shapely hiccups in complex areas. So I spent a lot of time:

• Simplifying the outlines ✏️• Without losing the corgi’s character 💛• Guiding the program so it understood how that edge should flow through every curve ✨

It was a balancing act: Optimize the model enough so the computer could handle it…But not so much that the artistry disappeared.

And after wrestling with it a bit — it snapped into place.

The movement looked right. The profile flowed beautifully. The pendant finally felt like a corgi running with purpose — tiny legs working far harder than they should be able to. 🐾💨

This is the kind of detail most people will never consciously notice…But they’ll feel it. And that’s the secret behind designer jewelry.

As I chipped away at the tiniest details of this corgi pendant, I needed a little backup — something that could pull me out of the emotional fog and help me push forward. So I turned to my favorite soundtrack right now: KPop Demon Hunters.
