Let’s Bring Some Clarity
to the Process

Choosing an engagement ring or redesigning a meaningful heirloom shouldn’t feel confusing or overwhelming. If you’ve been stuck in research mode, second-guessing yourself, or unsure where to start, you’re in the right place.

Alex Reynolds, jewelry designer at Charming Quail Jewelry Design, smiling and approachable

Hi, I’m Alex Reynolds, designer at Charming Quail Jewelry Design.

If you’d like to learn a bit more about who I am and how I work, you can read more on the About page.

Most people don’t buy engagement rings very often.

You’re expected to make a big, emotional, long-term decision about something you may not know much about, and somehow feel completely confident while doing it.

That’s a lot to ask of anyone.

My goal isn’t to pressure you into a sale.

It’s to help you think clearly, cut through the noise, and figure out what actually fits you and your life.

Whether you’re:

  • Trying to choose the right engagement ring

  • Feeling overwhelmed by too many options

  • Unsure how to turn an idea into a real design

  • Or thinking about redesigning an heirloom piece

…you don’t have to figure it out alone.

I’ve helped many people move from confusion to confidence, simply by asking the right questions and guiding them through the process one step at a time.

What This Conversation Is (and Isn’t)

This is NOT:
  • A high-pressure sales call

  • A commitment to buy anything

  • A rushed design session

This IS:
  • A calm, honest conversation

  • A chance to talk through your ideas

  • Help figuring out your next step

Sometimes the most valuable thing is simply having someone in your corner who has done this before.

Ready to Talk?

If you’d like help getting unstuck and figuring out what truly fits you, I’d be happy to help.

Start the conversation here:

Even if you’re still early in the process, that’s perfectly okay.

How It Works

  1. We start with a simple conversation about what you’re thinking and what matters to you.

  2. I help you sort through options in a way that actually makes sense.

  3. Together we figure out whether the next step is custom design, exploring ready-made options, or just gathering more clarity.

No pressure. No obligation. Just guidance.

You don’t need all the answers right now.
You just need a little clarity.

Recent Custom Project

A recent one-of-a-kind pendant created through our custom design process.

This custom pearl pendant was designed to honor family memories and a season of life spent traveling together. The pearls were arranged in a grape-cluster form as a nod to time spent living in a vineyard, translating personal history into wearable symbolism.

Your Custom Design Journey

If you’ve been following along on YouTube, or we’ve already spoken, this is where ideas begin to take form.

If you’re just discovering Charming Quail, welcome. Here’s what working together actually looks like.

Creating something meaningful shouldn’t feel overwhelming. It should feel clear, collaborative, and steady.

1

Clarify the Vision

Every custom piece begins with a conversation.

We start by understanding what this piece represents and why it matters. Who is it for? What story does it carry? What should it feel like when it’s worn?

This step isn’t rushed. It ensures we’re aligned before any design work begins.

You move forward knowing your priorities are understood and respected.

2

Design with Confidence

Once the vision is clear, we begin shaping it into something real.

Sketches and models are developed and refined. You’ll see the design evolve and have the opportunity to give feedback before anything is finalized.

Nothing moves into production without your approval.

You’ll always know what stage we’re in and what comes next, so the process feels steady, not uncertain.

The goal here is simple: when we move forward, you feel confident in the direction.

3

Craft with Care

After final approval, the design moves into production with trusted local master metalsmiths.

Every detail is built with longevity in mind, from structural integrity to final finish. This isn’t just about beauty, it’s about durability and craftsmanship.

When the piece arrives in your hands, it should feel right, not just visually, but personally.

Clear steps. Collaborative design. Crafted to last.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a custom piece typically cost?

Custom pricing depends on materials, complexity, and stone selection.

Because each piece is designed from scratch and crafted in solid gold or similarly durable materials, most custom projects begin around $3,000 and increase from there depending on materials and complexity.

We discuss budget early in the process so expectations are clear before design work begins. There are no surprise shifts mid-project.

Is there a deposit required?

Yes. Once we align on the design direction and budget, a deposit is required before moving into detailed design and production.

This ensures time and materials are committed appropriately and allows the project to move forward with focus and intention.

How long does the process take?

From initial design conversation to finished piece, most custom projects are completed within 6–10 weeks.

The timeline depends on complexity, stone sourcing, and scheduling, but the structure remains consistent: vision, design approval, then production.

You’ll know what stage we’re in at all times, and if a specific deadline matters, we’ll plan around it from the beginning.

Clear communication is part of the craftsmanship.

What if I don’t like the design?

Your approval is required before anything moves into production.

You’ll see the design evolve and have opportunities to give feedback along the way. The goal is alignment before we ever commit to fabrication.

Once production begins, changes become significantly more difficult, which is why we take the design phase seriously.

Can I use heirloom stones or existing jewelry?

In many cases, yes.

Existing stones or meaningful pieces can often be incorporated into a new design. We’ll evaluate condition, suitability, and structural considerations before committing to a direction.

Preserving meaning while ensuring durability is always the priority.

Is custom more expensive than buying ready-made jewelry?

Custom is typically an investment, but it also allows you to control materials, quality, and meaning.

You’re not paying for retail markups on inventory sitting in a case. You’re investing in something designed specifically for you and crafted to last.

If you still have questions, that’s completely normal. The first conversation is simply a chance to explore whether this is the right fit.
